My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid is a federally funded program located in Lanham, Maryland convenient to Washington DC and Maryland designed for children. The My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid program is built on the foundation of providing children a safe and welcoming space where they can find academic support like tutoring to encourage a lifelong love of learning and academic success. My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid program also provides recreational and enrichment opportunities including dance, art, and other cultural events and activities designed to encourage social and character-building skills with hands-on learning.
My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid offers high quality STEM curriculums of science, technology, engineering, math and performing arts to students in grades PreK through 8 th grade. It provides these students with academic educational enrichment and recreational activities that are designed to reinforce and complement their regular academic program.
Smarts focuses on academic enhancement and social development in after school programs and in summer camps. Together with program partners SMARTS incorporates performing arts activities into an academic program, where math and science are woven into hands-on activities, classroom instructions and performance-related tasks.
We assist PreK through 8th grade children in completing homework assignments, catching up on missed assignments, and more. Personalized instructions are created and implemented to further reinforce classroom teachings and clarify core concepts. Academic assistance is provided based on the individual student’s needs in math, science, and reading.
The My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid program also teaches valuable social development skills for a well-rounded student. This academic and recreational enrichment program focuses on your child’s well-being as a whole. Our aim is to inspire and educate children with educational, physical, and psychological fundamentals that will last long beyond the classroom years.
My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid program includes a wide variety of enrichment activities designed to support your child’s learning and development skills. Reading, math, and science skills are enriched with activities designed to tap into their love of exploration and learning. From staging a theatrical production to hands-on learning and other cultural activities, children receive ongoing support to enhance and enrich educational and character-building skills.
My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid provides transportation from your child’s school to the My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid Center (DanceMakers, Inc.). Parents not using the My S.M.A.R.T.S. Kid bus are responsible for picking up their child before 6:30pm daily.
Through a partnership with the Judy Hoyer Family Literacy Program, family literacy and English proficiency resources are also available to families. Families participate in quarterly learning parties and in all aspects of rehearsal for the theatrical performance held at the end of each academic year. Business and financing; planning; job preparation, and other family focused educational workshops are provided. Parents are responsible for the cost of their child’s costume for the end-of-the-year performance.
